Laurana - finished

If anybody remembers the sketch of this, I'll be really impressed. It's so OLD.... Aaaanyway, this is Laurana, from the Dragonlance book series begun by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. I *almost* put it in the fanart section, but I changed enough from the *technical* descriptions in the books, hopefully I can get away with putting it in the fantasy section instead. For instance - I had a dragonlance in mind when I drew the spear... and it looks absolutely nothing like a dragonlance. I'm perfectly aware of that.

I played around for a while with the idea of calling this "The Golden General", because of Laurana's role in the war and all... but it only refers to that side of her, wheres the picture shows both sides of her: as a princess, and as a general. So I left it as just 'Laurana'. It's a funny thing... I guess I ought to specify that it's two views of the same person... I've looked at it for so long that I don't even think about the potential confusion anymore.

Another piece done for Dragon*Con. I tried to think about it as I would a book cover - that's why there's so much space at the top, where an imaginary title would go. It was fun to try a different digital approach - painting mainly on top of the sketch instead of using lineart. It was a bit more risky - to get the results I wanted, I had to do just about all the detailed work on one layer, so it wasn't as 'safe' as having separate layers for each color. I'm not sure if I'll use the exact same approach again, but it was a fun experiment.
